7th JOZEF CIEPLUCHA INTERNATIONAL ACADEMIC OBOE AND BASSOON COMPETITION

Konkurs oboistów i fagocistów

The organizer of the 7th Jozef Cieplucha International Academic Oboe and Bassoon Competition is the Department of Wind Instruments of the Grazyna and Kiejstut Bacewicz University of Music in Lodz. Its idea is to promote the best instrumentalists from Polish and foreign music academies. It is held in two separate categories: oboe and bassoon. The Competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students of oboe and bassoon classes of all nationalities who are under 26 years of age at the start of the event. The Competition is also open to talented high school students who meet the programme requirements.

The Competition has a long-standing tradition. It began its history at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s in Wloszakowice - the birthplace of Karol Kurpinski. Its organiser was Ludwik Kurkiewicz – for many years the head of the Department of Wind Instruments at the Academy of Music in Warsaw. In the 1990s the event was held in Sieradz as the National Oboe and Bassoon Competition (1996), then as the International Academic Oboe and Bassoon Competition (1999). Under the same name, the next four editions were held in Lodz (2002, 2005, 2008, 2011). Since 2014, the Competition has been named after Jozef Cieplucha.

This year’s seventh edition of the Competition is scheduled for May 6th–8th, 2024 (2nd stage and 3rd stage). According to the organisers' decision dated March 10th, 2024, the application form must be completed and sent by March 26th, 2024, together with a link to the recording of the 1st stage (elimination) programme.
